Samhain

Samhain

Have you noticed?

Something has shifted.

Within us, all around us.

The shadows cast differently from the angle of the sun.

The air is chilling and seeps past the stitches in our sweaters.

Samhain is arriving and it is no wonder our ancestors felt there was a peculiarity to this season.

Some days you may wonder if you’re being watched and my dear, we are…

The trees watch, the wilting grass and flowers drooping closer still to return to the earth from where they came. They watch us continue on.

Do they wonder if they’ll see us again?

Perhaps just as those that have gone before us, perhaps they are there too, just on the other side, waiting to see us again in whatever mystery of a way they do...

And perhaps this feels like a bit much within a little box from a friend, but my love, this is the season where our waters flow, and often they do so with grief. And if we do not witness that flow, guide the waters on their way, those waters may get stuck and bogged down with the heaviness of loss.

So I am here as a friend to remind you .. be tender with yourself.

These next two seasons on the spiraling wheel remind us we must slow down, we must be with those casting shadows within ourselves, and we must.. grieve..

Whether it be the life of another whom we deeply loved, or the versions of ourselves that we deeply loved, or visions of our future that we imagined deeply loving. It’s the time of year to honor loss.

It’s a time to light candles for our loved ones, and also for ourselves. We all need the warmth and glow of flickering lights to guide us home.
